Drakensberg Accommodation

Welcome to the Drakensberg Mountains
and the Natal Midlands region. The accommodation
offered at the Antbear Guest House is set
in the middle of a network of dirt roads
with a spectacular view over the Central
Drakensberg.
No big resort hotels to be found here - you'll
have the mountains to yourselves.
The Antbear Guest House is ideally situated
for your day trips into the central
Drakensberg,
southern Drakensberg and northern Drakensberg.
The guest house ovelooks the Bushmans River
Valley, Giants
Castle and White
Mountain peak. 30kms from Mooi
River and
30 kms from Estcourt makes the guest house
still very easily accessible.

Spectacular views, seclusion,
tranquillity and nothing more intrusive than
the sound of a tractor in the far distance.
People comment on the peacefulness of our location
however its far from silent with the dawn
and evening chorus of crickets, birds, the
occasional hoot of an owl, the bleat of a reedbuck
and the call of a jackle. Yes we live
in an unspoiled rural mountain landscape.
Homemade biscuits, jams,
preserves, breads, muffins. And farm-style
candlelit dinners. With a touch of artistic
flare to boot. This is more of a boutique hotel
than just another country farm house.
Drakensberg accommodation - Comfort and
perfect privacy
Our guest accommodation all has seperate
private entrances. Rooms are clean and
cosy as well as generously spacious, comfortable
beds and mattresses and crisply laundered linen.
We only accommodate 14 persons at a time
so every guest enjoys our warmest, personal
attention. We supply you with the all the hiking
trail information you need and give you a Drakensberg
tourist map which make exporing the Drakensberg region even easier.

Drakensberg accommodation - Really great
food
Food matters here. We are
passionate about our cooking and have developed
our own fusion style. Plan for slow and
decadent dinners by candlelight. Sometimes
it’s
a Moroccan spread including a genuine Moroccan
tagine prepared on wood coals or maybe it’s
a surprise of just how delightful Chinese food
can be. Everything is cooked from scratch and
is created fresh. no stock cubes will be found
here.
Breakfast is served with freshly baked
bread and scones and often it becomes a 2 hour
affair. Organic free-range eggs are from our
own chickens and much of the produce is from
our organic garden. We make our own jams. Our
secret is to use the freshest and best
ingredients and do as much as possible ourselves.
Drakensberg
accommodation-whats there to do while you are
here
The short answer of what the Drakensberg
and Natal Midlands offers is a lot. The Drakensberg
is special for its hiking trails with Giant's
Castle as the centerpiece of the Drakensberg
World Heritage Site. Giant's Castle is also
home to some of the biggest populations of lammergeier and
eland worldwide. Kamberg offers the best examples
of rock art galleries that are accessible to
tourists. Alternatively,
go fly fishing,
horse riding, or play a round of golf. Or perhaps
you'd like a trip up Sani
Pass? The Midlands
Meander is the
biggest arts & crafts route in South
Africa. Then for the history buffs there
are Anglo
Boer War Battlefields Tours. And if you are
here on a wednesday dont forget that the Drakensberg
Boys' Choir offers a concert that will be rememerable.
